Joe M. Towns, Jr., a multitalented musican and athlete, was a student at the University of Georgia from 1930 until his graduation in 1934. Young Joe's numerous activities included being a championship golfer and a member of the UGA track team and school band. Joe was also active in the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.
